Angels News: Doctor Offers Up Insight on Anthony Rendon Situation
Dr. Frank Petrigliano, the Angels’ orthopedist, addressed the media about Anthony Rendon’s injury situation and the timeline for his return.
“I think this is completely within the normal timeframe,” said Petrigliano, speaking in general terms because he hasn’t evaluated Rendon. “And it may take a while for him to get back, which is disappointing because obviously he’s had other issues."

Since Rendon has been avoiding the media at historic proportions, everyone is concerned. The Angels are fighting an uphill battle to get to the postseason for the first time since 2014, and many think a healthy Rendon could make the difference for the Angels between going to the postseason and sitting at home. After all, the Angels signed Rendon to a 7-year $245 million after the 2019 season when he won a world championship with the Washington Nationals.
Rendon has had several major injuries since the beginning of the 2021 season, limiting his playing time to less than a season. When he has played, his offensive performance has been lousy.
This season the Angels have been attacked by the injury bug, undermining the team effort. Soon, however, Mike Trout will return.
Since Shohei Ohtani is a free agent after this season, the Angels want and need to go to the playoffs, but they are 12.5 games out of the Al West division lead and 7 games out of the final Wild Card spot. And for the foreseeable future, they're going to be without their high-paid third baseman.
