Angels News: Dodgers Skipper Isn't Looking Forward to Shohei Ohtani on The Mound
The Los Angeles Angels have a big two-game series against their city counterparts Los Angeles Dodgers this week. One team, your Angels, are playing their best basketball of the season and are possibly the hottest team in the league. The Dodgers, on the other hand, are on a downward spiral, playing their worst baseball of the season, and have fallen in the NL playoff picture.
The Halos will look to take advantage of the struggling Dodgers and climb closer to the AL West. It's a big series for both clubs, and the Angels are treating it as such as they'll have their two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani on the mound on Wednesday.
Ohtani is the best player in the league when you combine his elite hitting and pitching prowess. Everybody knows how great and intimidating he is on both sides of the ball, including Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts. Roberts spoke to OC Register's J.P. Hoornstra and said he'd rather face Ohtani in the box than on the mound.
“Given the choice, I’d probably rather him just hit,” Roberts said of Ohtani, “because it’s only four at-bats, where if you’re looking at 110 pitches, that’s pretty daunting.
“You pick your poison with that one.”
As Roberts said, pick your poison. Nothing is easy against the two-way star. You want to face him while he's on the mound; good luck with his five-pitch mix and hitting off his deadly sweeper. When you get him in the box, he's hitting .300 with a whopping 1.016 OPS, 24 home runs, and 58 RBIs in 72 games. You can go wrong as an opponent.
This will be the first time the Dodgers will face Ohtani as a pitcher in his six-year career, which is insane to think about. They play each other yearly, which hasn't happened until Wednesday night.
The Dodgers and Ohtani have been linked to each other for the past year and a half, making this matchup even juicer. All eyes will be on Ohtani and LA in what is the most looked-forward-to matchup of the season so far.
