Angels News: Expert Thinks Halos Can End Postseason Drought in 2023
There's not a fanbase that has been deprived of postseason baseball longer than the fans of the Los Angeles Angels.
Entering 2023, the Angels have the longest postseason drought, tied with the Detroit Tigers at eight seasons.
Both teams last made the postseason in 2014, and after 2015, the Angels haven't even been close.
However, this offseason, GM Perry Minasian has made tons of smart moves, in the hopes of ending that drought. Mike Trout said his main goal is getting to the postseason, and MLB.com's Will Leitch sees that as a real possibility. He senses a major turnaround in Anaheim this season.
"If the Halos can just keep Trout, Ohtani, Anthony Rendon and company on the field most of the time, and everything else is just league average, this team could sail into the playoffs."
"Sail" is a very interesting word, implying that it'll almost be easy for them to make the postseason if they're healthy. While that seems like a bold take, on paper, it makes a ton of sense — and he's not the only expert to think they'll make the postseason.
Right now, the Angels have one of the deepest rosters in baseball, led at the top by two of baseball's best players in Trout and Shohei Ohtani.
Minasian wanted to raise the team's floor this offseason, and add depth all over the field — and that's exactly what he did.
The Angels are unlikely to compete in the division, as the defending champion Houston Astros are still on top of the throne. However, the Angels should have a real shot at competing for the Wild Card, as long as they remain healthy.
