Angels News: Fans Ecstatic With LA’s Pitching Depth Over The Next Years
Your Los Angeles Angels will open up the 2023 season with a lot to prove and some big headlines potentially weighing on their shoulders. Superstar Mike Trout has already been vocal about how tired he is of losing, Shohei Ohtani is in trade rumors every day and those will only heat up closer to the deadline, and the offseason didn't bring many big names to the squad.
However, fans have been pointing out that LA's recent trend of drafting mainly pitchers has begun paying off for them. Many members of the current pitching staff used to be among the Angels' best pitching prospects and now have either secured in the big league or the minor leagues.
Pitching definitely is a touchy subject amongst Angels fans because there are few better in the league on the mound than Shohei Ohtani and his future in LA is very uncertain. Last season, he recorded a 2.33 ERA over 166 innings and posted a 5.6 fWAR.
Heading into the season with a six-man rotation, the Angels will look to have some variety and definitely possess the talent to do so. Tyler Anderson was brought in to help with this and he will join some other prominent names in Patrick Sandoval and Reid Detmers, who has been impressing in Spring Training.
Their slate of pitching prospects across all the leagues will be important if Ohtani does jump ship. It will be hard for any of them to jump into his role and match his production but they do provide some nice insurance.
