Angels News: Gio Urshela Details Approach That's Made Him a Top AL Slugger
The Los Angeles Angels have been all over the place this season and at times, have looked capable of holding their own against the top clubhouses in the MLB. Unfortunately, we’ve also seen their weaknesses at full effect with their most recent series against Miami where they couldn’t win a single game.
But then you look at how their depth has been coming through as of late and names like Mickey Moniak, Zach Neto, and Gio Urshela have all been making life easier for LA’s superstars.
Urshela is actually playing some of the best baseball of his career right now as through 50 games with the Halos this year, he is slashing .318/.340/.402 and has been one of their best options at the plate in 2023. He’s among the best hitters in the American League and has been letting his numbers do the talking.
The 31-year-old infielder revealed his approach to every swing he takes.
“I’m just trying to wait for my pitch,” said Urshela. “I’m not trying to do too much or rush myself. Wherever the pitch comes from, I try to hit it that way.
Seeing Ursehla’s success continue this far into the season reminds of one of his superstitions he revealed to the world earlier this month. He was initially struggling to get hits early on but Shohei Ohtani simply wrote ‘Hits’ on his bat before games and everything changed since then.
The Halos are currently in a new series against the Chicago White Sox and have a big one following against the Houston Astros. It would be huge to see Urshela to thrive in both of these.
