Angels News: GM Doesn't Regret Holding on to Shohei Ohtani at Trade Deadline
The Los Angeles Angels have seen this season turn from hopeful to disaster. They found themselves in a position to strike right before the trade deadline, so they made some aggressive moves that they believed would help break their long playoff drought.
But things completely backfired on this organization, and the team fell even farther down in the standings. They also decided to wave the white flag on the season when they decided to put all of the players that they acquired on waivers to get some salary relief.
It has been a rough month for the Angels, and now, they have the impending free agency of Shohei Ohtani coming up this winter. Many believed that the team should have traded him at the deadline when they had a chance to get something of value for him, but they held firm and kept him.
But even now, Angels general manager Perry Minasian doesn’t believe that they made a mistake. He believes that things just happen, but the decision could send the Angels even farther into mediocrity for years to come.
“At the time we made the decisions we made," Minasian told reporters, “we felt like they were the right decisions. And sometimes you do things that work. Sometimes you do things that don’t. …

While you have to credit the Angels for being aggressive, the moves that they made were poor. It hasn’t worked out, and ramifications will likely be coming because of it.

Ohtani could very well decide to stay with the only team that he has ever known in the major leagues, but his desire to win could also have him leave. The Angels haven’t really done much of anything to show him that they are capable of fielding a winner.
The entire organization took a gamble, and it didn’t work out. Things do happen, but when it comes to the future of this franchise, there have been far too many things that have happened over the years that didn’t help them win games.
