Angels general manager Perry Minasian spoke to the media for the first time in a while this weekend at Angel Stadium. The biggest question, of course, was regarding Shohei Ohtani and his impending free agency.

Rumors have flown about the Angels being "out of the running" for Ohtani, while other reports have shown them among the favorites. No one knows for sure, but fortunately, we got to hear from Minasian on how he feels about the relationship and the upcoming negotiations. However, he did his best to dodge the questions about how negotiations were going, and if they've begun at all.

"Obviously, we love Shohei Ohtani," Minasian said. "I believe that all of us, this whole organization, would like nothing more than to see him here for a long, long time. That being said, the same line I always use and you guys know and probably roll your eyes at, I don’t negotiate publicly. We love the player. We love what he’s about. He’s somebody that we can envision here for a long time."

Minasian also said he thinks the relationship between the two sides is "outstanding," which he thinks will help in them trying to get a deal.

Obviously, Angels fans would have loved to hear a little more, but that's not usually the way the Angels do things. The agreement the two sides made to avoid arbitration came out of nowhere, so if any extension talks were to happen, they would also fly under the radar.

Angels fans will definitely be in the dark for most of the Ohtani talks this offseason, so they'll just have to hope that he wants to remain in Anaheim for the long-term future.
