Anthony Rendon can’t do any baseball activity yet after suffering a bone bruise on his left shin. General manager Perry Minasian believes Rendon wants to return this season.

Minasian addressed the media about Rendon’s situation.

“He’s doing everything he can to get as healthy as he can as quick as he can,” Minasian said. “He wants to play. He wants to help us win games. Nobody’s more disappointed with what he’s going through than himself. It’s a freak injury. This isn’t a pulled hamstring.”

Rendon has been avoiding the media, and he has not had a good experience with the Los Angeles Angels. He has constantly battled injuries since he signed a 7-year $245 contract after he won a world championship with the Washington Nationals in 2019.

Since joining the Angels in 2020, Rendon has played just 200 games. The Angels expected Rendon to be their regular third baseman and provide them good offense from the right side. He hasn’t, and his lack of playing time has contributed to the recent struggles for the Angels.

When he has played, he hasn’t performed well or what the Angels expected. During the 2023 season, Rendon has played 43 games and has a .236 batting average, 0 home runs, and 22 RBI.

The Angels need to unload Rendon, but they can’t. No team in its right mind would take Rendon and the rest of his deal. The Angels must figure out how to win with Rendon’s contract and without him on the field. Even if he returns, Rendon won’t make much difference in the Angels’ ability to go to the playoffs.
