The Angels have their work cut out for them the rest of the way if they want to make a run at the playoffs. They find themselves multiple games out of the final American League wild-card spot with under 50 games left to go.

However, confidence isn’t lost on the team, and it starts at the top. General Manager Perry Minasian still believes in this team and is hopeful that they can turn things around.

“We still have 46 games to go,” Minasian said before the Angels opened a series against the Houston Astros on Friday. “There’s a lot of baseball to be played. We’re we’re going to put our best foot forward. I still believe in this team.”

After an aggressive trade deadline, the Angels aren’t where they hoped they would be. But they aren’t giving up with games still to play.

“We’ve got some work to do,” Minasian said. “There’s no denying that, but I’m looking forward to watching the next 46 and seeing how we do.”

Minasian has seen a swing of success this season turn into sorrow, only for it to go up and down again. Baseball is a weird sport because a few bad or good weeks can define an entire season. The Angels have seen both sides to this.

“As good as things are, they can change really quick,” he said. “As bad as things are, they can change really quick. We’ve seen that throughout the year. For us, the most important thing is to understand how important today is and do what we need to do to win a game.”

The team needs to take things one day at a time. That’s all they can do for now, while hoping for the best. They should be getting some players back from injury soon, which will help, but it could be too late.

If the Angels don’t reach the postseason, their long drought will continue. They haven’t seen the playoffs since 2014, and their odds seem very bleak right now.
