Angels News: Griffin Canning Returns from Injured List
Griffin Canning had his last start on July 25th where he tossed 5 innings only giving up a pair of runs. Following that start he was scheduled to make a start that he was last minute scratched from due to a calf injury.
That calf injury would land him on the 15-day injured list taking him away from some very important ballgames for the team playing in Anaheim.
Well almost three weeks removed from his last start, the consistent arm is back to join the rotation with some new faces on the roster.
The 27-year-old veteran is having his best year out of the four he has been with the club. Looking to toss over 100 innings this year which would be the first time in his career, the 2020 Gold Glove winner has been consistent.
While consistency may not be the flashiest title it is something much needed for the ballclub that is struggling with pitching arms as of late and have been on a terrible run only winning two games since the trade deadline.
At 58-60 the Angels are 6.5 games back from the last Wild Card spot and an addition to the starting rotation is very much needed.
Canning generates a lot of whiffs and is able to get batters to chase out of the zone with his breaking stuff. If he is able to miss more barrels with his pitches and put up quality outings, he may be just what the Halos need as they look to challenge for a Wild Card spot.
