Angels News: Halos Alarmingly Low in Multiple Offensive Categories
The Los Angeles Angels are looking for different results this season. They have yet to make the postseason since 2014 and haven't had a winning season since 2015. As for 2023, the Halos are off to an okay, not great, start. They certainly have a better roster on paper, but it has yet to translate to success in their record.
Men lie, women lie, but numbers do not, and the Halos are ranked toward the bottom half of multiple offensive stats. Twitter account Beyond the Halo posted that the Angels are towards the bottom in baserunners scored rate, less than two outs, runner at third base rate, and productive out rates.
For the category of productive outs rate, the Halos are ranked 21 out of 30 at 22.4%, four percent less than the league average. Baserunners scored rate is at 13.9%, ranked 18th overall, and zero outs, runner at second, and runner advanced rate are a bit better at 53.7%, which is 14th in the league.
It's disregarding to see these numbers, especially with guys like Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani and the team's off-season additions. The offense has been hit or miss this season; either the offense is lighting it up, and the pitching is not looking great, and sometimes it's the pitching that's lights out, and the bats are ice cold.
The Angels have plenty of time to move up in these rankings, and they will need to in order to fight for a playoff spot. They have the talent to make it happen; we'll see how their numbers look by the end of the season.
