Angels News: Halos Insider Provides an Update on David Fletcher in The Minor Leagues
The Los Angeles Angels shocked their fan base last month when they optioned veteran David Fletcher for their young first-round pick Zach Neto.
The move surprised everyone, not only because they brought up their 2022 draft selection but of who they decided to demote. Fletcher was with the Halos for six seasons; however, he had a horrendous start to his 2023 campaign.
They demoted him in hopes David would find his groove, but unfortunately, that has not been the case for the 29-year-old. The Angels minor league Twitter account updated us with each player's stats, but Angels insider Jeff Fletcher pointed out Flecther's stats, which is not pretty.
David's numbers look just as bad as they were in his time in the majors. In eight games with the Halos, Fletcher was slashing .125/.125/.125 with a .250 OPS in 16 ABs. His numbers are a bit better in the minors, but nothing like how the Angels expected him to do; he's slashing .238/.319/.333 with a .652 OPS in 10 games and 42 ABs.
Fletcher can't seem to find his groove in triple-A, and I'm sure this is not how the organization saw this play out. The right hitter signed a 5-year deal worth $26 million in hopes he would be a solid piece to what the Halos were trying to accomplish; now we wonder if he'll ever make his way back to the majors.
