Angels News: Halos Overhaul Roster With Series of Call Ups to Replace Players Lost on Waivers
September 1 is always a big day for MLB call ups, as rosters are allowed to expand two spots to 28 players. For the Angels, however, we knww it was going to be even bigger.
After losing five players on waivers on Thursday after essentially waving the white flag on the season, the Halos had tons of spots to fill on their active roster.
We knew one of the moves, as they surprisingly called up the team's No. 6 prospect from Double-A, which you can read about by clicking here. But that was just one of the many moves coming on Friday to fill up the roster as September begins.
On Friday, the team called up six players: RHP Jimmy Herget, LHP Kolton Ingram, RHP Gerardo Reyes, INF Michael Stefanic, RHP Andrew Wantz and, of course, INF Kyren Paris.
Herget has been up and down all year, with his latest appearance coming on August 19 at the MLB level. Overall in the big leagues this season, the right-hander has a 5.82 ERA in 17 appearances.
Ingram has made just two appearances at the MLB level this season, both coming in June. In those two games, he gave up four earned runs in 2.1 innings, giving him a 15.43 ERA.
Reyes has made five big league appearances this season for the Halos, four of them coming in July. On the year, the righty has a 6.75 ERA.
Wantz made 15 appearances with the Halos this season, but none since the end of June. In those 15 games, Wantz had a 4.56 ERA and threw 23.2 innings.
Finally there's Stefanic, who appeared in 11 games this season, hitting just .190 with one extra-base hit and three runs batted in.
As for Paris, he's making the jump straight from Double-A, where he had 14 home runs and an OPS of .810 in 113 games. He also had an incredible 44 stolen bases.
At this point, all these players are auditioning for a spot on next year's big league roster, whether with the Angels or someone else.
