Angels News: Halos Playoff Odds Are Bleak Through Quarter Mark
As of Wednesday, the Los Angeles Angels are one game above.500 and sit in third place in the AL West division. The Halos could be off to a better start, but they are still in the thick of things in the AL playoff picture.
We're officially a quarter through the baseball season, and the Angels are in a good spot to compete for a playoff position. A lot can happen from now till then, but at the moment, they remain a coin flip on whether they'll make it or not. At least, according to MLB expert Zachary Rymer who based the odds on the chances of each team making the postseason with four different sites and their percentages. The Halos landed at number 20.
20. Los Angeles Angels (22-20)
FG: 25.6%, BR: 10.6%, 538: 28%, DK: +220
The Angels are on track to win more games than they lose for the first time since 2015. So, that's something. As to whether they can make the leap to being a proper playoff contender, that'll come down to them getting more from Tyler Anderson, Reid Detmers, Taylor Ward, Anthony Rendon and especially Mike Trout. And you know what? That's not a bad bet.
The sites they used were FanGraphs, Baseball Reference, FiveThirtyEight, and Draftkings (in that order). The Angels
The Halos have not made the postseason since 2014 and are in an eight-year drought. They've robbed us of regular occurrences of Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani playing October baseball.
They'll need to rely on those two, plus the others, to make a strong playoff push. The Angels had a fanatic off-season as GM Perry Minasian did a lot to improve his team and get them over the hump.
This season will tell us a lot about the Angels and if they will be able to retain Ohatni past this season.
