Angels News: Halos Set to Get Two Players Back from Injured List on Friday
Baseball is back tonight and the Angels open the second half of the season by welcoming the Houston Astros to Anaheim. The story of the first half of the season was the injury bug for the Halos. 14 players currently reside on the injured list and others on the active roster are banged up.
Thankfully, it looks like the team will be welcoming two players back from the IL on Friday.
According to The Athletic, the Angels will be activating rookie shortstop Zach Neto and lefty reliever Matt Moore off the IL this afternoon.
The Angels were 6 games over .500 when Neto went down. Since he suffered an oblique strain on June 14, the team has gone 7-14 while falling to one game under .500 and to fourth place in the AL West.
All of the Angels' issues haven't been directly related to Neto's absence, but the correlation is quite astounding.
The club will happily welcome back the standout rookie shortstop who is hitting .259 with 6 home runs and 22 RBI over 55 games this season. Third baseman Anthony Rendon could be available to slot back into the line shortly as well. Rendon is dealing with a leg contusion after taking a nasty foul ball off his shin on July 4th in Sa Diego.
In other good injury news, Shohei Ohtani takes the ball as the starting pitcher for Phil Nevin tonight against the Astros, putting to rest any issues with that blister that had been bothering him over his last few starts.
Update
It became official. Moore and Neto have returned but Rendon has been placed on the injured list.
