Angels News: Halos Starting SS Zach Neto Heading to IL with Oblique Strain
The Los Angeles Angels received some less than fortunate news on Thursday afternoon when they found out that Zach Neto had suffered an oblique strain a couple of days ago when he was trying throw an out in the first inning of a match against the Texas Rangers.
He was in clear discomfort when he made the throw and had to be removed from the game immediately. Team manager Phil Nevin initially hoped that it was just a cramp but Neto underwent an MRI just to be safe and they found out that it was indeed more serious than they thought.
The Athletic's Sam Blum was the first to share the news.
"Zach Neto is going on the IL with an oblique strain. He said he didn’t know the severity of the strain or how long he’ll be out. He said he is feeling better already."

This is a huge blow for the Halos as they were in the midst of one of the best stretches of their entire season and the rookie SS was playing a huge role. Over the past ten games, Neto was batting .346 with three homers and a number of huge defensive plays.
It's not an easy task for a rookie to play shortstop in the amount of games that Neto has, especially considering that he barely had any minor league experience. However, he made the most of his opportunity and we hope to see him back soon!
