Angels News: Halos Trade for Right-Handed Reliever From Mets
Right before the trade deadline closed the Angels made one more move acquiring Dominic Leone from the New York Mets.
The 31-year-old veteran is taking over 380 innings of work in his career with him into Anaheim and will look to relieve starters and help the Halos win.
In 2023, Leone threw 30.2 innings for the Mets with a 4.40 ERA. A solid performance played him out of the New York clubhouse looking to collect prospects and money after a failed season.
The New York Mets were big sellers at the deadline trading players like Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Tommy Pham, and David Robertson.
The opposite is said for the Angels making big moves at the trade deadline acquiring players like Lucas Giolito, C.J. Cron, and Randal Grichuk.
Sitting at 56-51, the Halos are 3rd in the AL West only 4.5 games behind the Rangers for the division lead. An even more attainable target is the Wild Card spot which the team is 3 games back from the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Angels are all in this year. Before Shohei Ohtani hits free agency this team wants to win with him and hopes to keep him a Halo for life.
Look for a strong finish from the Halos that allow players like Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, Lucas Giolito, and C.J. Cron to get some playoff games in their system and make a run for the World Series.
The Los Angeles Angels are definitively in a win-now mode which is a mode the team has not been in for the better half of a decade.
