The Los Angeles Angels made the biggest splash in the leadup to the August 1 trade deadline, acquiring starting pitcher Lucas Giolito and reliever Reynaldo Lopez from the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday in exchange for the organization's No. 2 and 3 prospects, catcher Edgar Quero and LHP Ky Bush.

That deal filled significant holes on the Angels roster, giving them another reliable starter behind Shohei Ohtani and a quality reliever that will help the Halos' bullpen depth.

But could that be it for the Halos at the deadline, or could the Angels engineer other swaps in the next few days?

Sam Blum of The Athletic spoke on that topic before the Angels shutout the Detroit Tigers in game one of their doubleheader on Thursday.

“These are the two players they needed to get. … This is the big trade they’re gonna make it looks like. You trade you’re second and third best prospect, that’s kinda the situation. I don’t think they’re done necessarily, but I do think this was the splash.” (The Athletic's Sam Blum via MLB Network's "MLB Now.")

The Angels could afford to make another, less earth-shattering -- move -- one for either another bullpen arm or depth in the bottom of their lineup -- but after acquiring Giolito and Lopez this week, they have an impressive enough roster where they could stay put and still contend in 2023.

Something they could explore is trading away a mid-tier prospect -- the Halos' No. 10 prospect in infielder Jeremiah Jackson would be a hypothetical option -- in an attempt to acquire another minor piece, but I think the Angels are set up well enough where they don't necessarily have to make another deal.

The Angels still have a few days to come to a final decision on what to do now, but it wouldn't be a bad thing if they sat back and enjoyed the rewards of Wednesday's blockbuster move.
