Angels News: Jared Walsh Officially Set to Make 2023 Debut, Veteran Outfielder Released
The wait is over, Angel fans. The Halos infielder and former All-Star Jared Walsh will make his 2023 debut on Saturday after suffering from a personal struggle for months.
Walsh will make his way back with the club, and because of this, the Halos DFA'd outfielder Brett Phillips earlier today. Angels insider Sam Blum was among the first to report the transaction.
Walsh has suffered from neurological issues, specifically insomnia and headaches. His issues affected his personal life and baseball life as he struggled mightily with not letting it bother him on the diamond. The 29-year-old is not entirely healed, but it's great to see he's doing better.
Phillips spent just 20 games with the Halos, where he slashed a horrendous .077/.250/.077 with a .327 OPS. His time in Anaheim was forgettable; however, he brought life and energy to the dugout and was responsible for putting on the samurai helmet for the players who would homer. Brett will be missed, and we wish him the best.
We're so happy that Walsh is back with the squad, and we can't wait to see how he looks after not playing since spring training. No pressure, Jared.
