Angels News: Jimmy Herget Sounds Off on Struggles in LA’s Friday Loss
It is truly a blessing and a curse to know that one pitch can change the outcome of a baseball game in just a few seconds. Fans of the Los Angeles Angels got to witness this firsthand Friday night as they saw a 3-1 lead turn to a 4-3 deficit that ultimately handed them their third loss of the season.
Obviously, we are only seven games into 2023 and Jimmy Herget should not be on the trading block for failing to hold onto their lead but as these next weeks go on, he and the rest of bullpen will have a microscope on them. The Angels have historically been a rollercoaster team and this season in particular is not one they can drop any easy games.
Pitching a 7.36 ERA along with giving up a three-run home run was not what Phil Nevin had in mind for him when he sent the 29-year-old to the pitching mound in the seventh inning against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Herbet spoke to the media postgame and emphasized that he doesn't believe all the attention should be on that one play.
"I wanted it to not hit the barrel. But shit happens. I throw a lot of breaking balls. Turns out it was the wrong pitch, wrong time," said Herget.

A lot of people are bashing Herget for folding during one of the biggest moments of the game but I think it's great that he views it this way. He needs to be confident in his throws each time and not less this game change that in any way.
