Angels News: LA Embarrassed by Orioles as Old Homegrown Talent Thrives
The Los Angeles Angels have been taking quite the different approach this season, especially with it being one that is ultra-important for them to win as many games as possible and fight for the top spot in the AL West.
They have been trusting mightily in their development system and bringing up minor league players to serve some key roles within the roster. Both Mickey Moniak and Zach Neto were trusted after some short stints in AA and AAA and were immediately thrust into leadoff roles.
Neto was barely drafted in 2022 and Moniak was given up on recently by the Phillies. Therefore, the Halos losing to the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday in large part due to one of their old prospects dominating them at the mound has to sting a bit.
How Did We Get Here?
Dylan Bundy was able to join the Angels back in 2019 thanks to a number of prospects that were sent to the Orioles and one of them just so happened to be the promising Kyle Bradish.
Bradish lasted six innings and was able to allow just four hits with one run on the night. Five strikeouts were handed out by him and team manager Phil Nevin had nothing but good things to say about him following LA's loss.
“He’s got really good stuff,” Angels manager Phil Nevin said. “He didn’t throw anything in the middle of the plate. We didn’t hit a lot of balls hard but he didn’t give us many chances to either. Our guys did a good job grinding out at-bats but he was really good tonight.”

Due to the Halos only getting one run when Mike Trout took Bradish deep in the fourth inning, it didn't leave much room for error for Griffin Canning since he was starting pitcher LA. Unfortunately, his three runs did lead to a loss in the end.
Luckily, the Halos have one more chance to make things happen on Thursday.
