The Angels recent winning ways may have stopped some of the noise surrounding the Shohei Ohtani situation. The organization has won five of six games, as they are about to head out on a critical road trip that will go through the MLB trade deadline.

Depending on how this week goes, it could have lasting ramifications for the Angels and baseball.

With their playoff hopes looking slim right now, the Angels could decide to move on front Ohtani, so they guarantee themselves some compensation for him if he leaves. But the team seems focused on trying to win right now, and not on this winter.

But if you look at the latest odds from DraftKings Sportsbook, it seems to agree with the Angels thinking. Currently, the Angels are listed as the team with the best odds for where Ohtani will be playing come August. They are listed at -170, with the cross-town Los Angeles Dodgers right behind them at +800.

It’s a pretty big gap for the Angels, so it seems that Vegas may know something. It seems that the Angels may get their wish of having Ohtani around, at least until the end of this season.

The team can choose to upgrade the roster to make a run at the playoffs, something that the organization hasn’t seen since 2014. It’s the main reason why people think Ohtani will leave once the year ends, and why others think they need to trade him now.

“It’s hard to justify trading one of the greatest players in baseball history, and Ohtani consistently puts butts in the seats. Plus, trading for two months of Ohtani may not bring in as strong of a trade package as his star power suggests — he’s all but guaranteed to test his value on the open market.”

Per The NY Post

It’s a tough place for any organization to be in, but for the Angels it’s an uncomfortable reality that their best player could be on the move here soon. They’ve known it for a while now, but it’s staring them directly in the face now. These next six or seven games could really determine how things go both this year and in the wintertime.
