A Mets and Nationals postseason hero is saying farewell to the game of baseball. The Salt Lake Bees were honored to be the final destination for this former star.

Daniel Murphy announced his retirement on Thursday. In 12 years, Murphy made a name for himself as a clutch playoff performer in Washington and New York.

Known as a good batter, Murphy was a career .296 hitter with an OPS of .796. When it came to October, Murphy was even better.

In the playoffs, Murphy hit .309 with eight home runs in six career series.

His most notable playoffs was in 2015 when he singlehandedly willed the Mets to a World Series appearance. In the NLDS against the Dodgers and NLCS against the Cubs, Murphy hit .420 with seven home runs in nine games.

He won the NLCS MVP that year and catapulted himself into an All-Star appearance the next season in 2016.

His postseason heroics continued into 2016 in an NLDS loss against the Dodgers with Washington. In the five-game series he could not get out, hitting over .400 with six RBIs.

Following two more playoff appearances, Murphy bounced around the league for a couple of seasons. He spent half a season with the Cubs and two with the Rockies.

His final stop of his long career came in the Angels organization. He signed with the team to a minor league contract in June and was assigned to Salt Lake.

With the Bees, he hit .295 in 38 games.

Right now, it is not clear what Murphy's post-retirement plans are, but he leaves behind his legacy as an incredible playoff performer and all-around great player.
