Angels News: Lucas Giolito Quickly Seeing Positive Results After Mechanical Adjustments
As the Los Angeles Angels continue their last-ditch effort to make a playoff run, they are doing so without the pitching services of Shohei Ohtani. He suffered a torn UCL earlier this week and has been shut down from throwing for the rest of the season.
Ohtani will continue hitting for the team as they search for a second option to deal with the injury. But the loss of their best pitcher is a tough one, especially down the stretch of the season.
However, their big trade deadline acquisition, Lucas Giolito, has been performing much better of late after a rocky start to his Angels tenure. The team will rely on him to carry a heavier load as the season winds down.
Giolito had his best start with the Halos recently, going six innings, allowing just one run and five hits against the Cincinnati Reds. He recently made some adjustments to his game and it helped him greatly against Cincinnati.
“I’ve never been able to make an adjustment to see immediate results so quickly when it comes to how the ball is coming out of my hand,” Giolito said. “Initially talking with (pitching coach Matt Wise) and going in and speaking with all the biomechanics and analytics guys, I got a report that I wasn’t getting behind the ball the way I like, and we got a plan to get back behind the ball. I like the way I’ve been throwing the ball.”

The team had hoped that Giolito would be the missing piece to the puzzle in their rotation, but some struggles out of the gates after the deadline put the Halos behind the eight ball. But this is a chance for him to boost his value as he is scheduled to be a free agent after the season.
During his time with the Angels, Giolito holds an ERA of 6.67 over five games played. The hope is that the issues are in the past, and he can continue to improve each time out on the mound.
