Angels News: Lucas Giolito Sums Up Time with Halos
When the Los Angeles Angels made their trade for starting pitcher Lucas Giolito, they had hoped he would be the piece to their rotation to help get them to the postseason. But fast forward a few weeks, and the Angels are in worse shape than ever — and Gioltio is now on waivers.
The team is essentially out of the playoff picture, and Giolito struggled during his time with the team. It has been the worst-case scenario for the franchise, and nobody is more disappointed than Giolito himself.
“It’s been very poor,” he said. “No other way to put it.”

In six starts with the Halos, Giolito sported an ERA of 6.89. He put together just one solid start where he allowed one run. In each of the other five starts, he allowed at least three runs in the game.
This includes him getting rocked in Monday’s loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, where he allowed five runs in 5.2 innings. He gave up three home runs in the process and spoke about his performance after the game.
“I like how the ball’s coming out, but I lost feel way too many times,” Giolito said. “Four walks. Two of them were on four pitches. Just kind of uncompetitive pitches. Then missing (in the) middle to good hitters and getting punished for that. It’s not a good outing.”

He is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the season, so this isn’t helping things for him. However, he'll hope to get picked up by a postseason contender on waivers, and turn around the last month of a disastrous season.
The Angels big gamble at the trade deadline did not work out. But Giolito's season could be saved with another change of scenery.
