If you're a fan of the Angels, Sam Blum's work over at The Athletic has been indispensable. He's worth the cost of a subscription all alone. Recently, he put out his annual poll of Angels fans on 20 different topics, and he got a lot more responses than he did last year.

A year ago, The Athletic ran a similar poll and got 771 people to respond. This year, there were 1,956 responses. The Angels fan base is as engaged as ever and didn’t wait long to use this poll as an outlet for their hopes and frustrations.

The whole poll is very enlightening, and I'd strongly encourage you to go check it out. For purposes of this article, though, we want to focus on one specific question:

How do you feel about Arte Moreno deciding not to sell the Angels?

The results probably won't surprise you, but the magnitude might.

This is probably the least surprising, but most shocking answer we’ll see here. About 75 percent of respondents are “very displeased” that Moreno didn’t sell the team. Another 16.5 percent are somewhat displeased. Only 66 total votes out of 1,947 said they were either very pleased (22) or somewhat pleased (34). This isn’t too hard to dissect. The Angels have an extremely unpopular owner who acts as though he’s totally unaccountable to the fans. He got everyone’s hopes up by saying he would sell, then crushed those dreams by taking the team off the market without explanation.

Let's say it again: 74.5% of fans are "very displeased" that the Halos owner is still their owner, and a full 91% are "displeased" to some degree. In a way, it's impressive to inspire that level of agreement among a group of baseball fans — there might not be another topic in the world that 91% of Angels fans would agree on.

So congratulations to Arte Moreno on uniting a fan base in a way no one would have thought possible!
