We received the very unfortunate news that one of the Angels' top relievers in Matt Moore suffered an oblique injury and had to be placed on the IL. Halos fans were hoping that it would not be anything serious and that he would be able to re-join the team very soon.

However, it is looking to be quite the opposite as team manager Phil Nevin spoke to the media prior to LA's Sunday outing against the Miami Marlins and revealed that he has no projection as to when Moore will return.

"Matt Moore has a Grade 2 oblique strain, Phil Nevin said. No clear timeline for a return. He won’t go on the road trip and will rehab in Anaheim."

Moore's injury occurred when he was throwing a side session prior to LA's match against the Marlins on Friday and initially believed that it was just a cramp. The 33-year-old has been through a number of roadblocks and injuries in his career but was off to a hot start with the Angels this season.

In 22 games in 2023, he was able to post a 1.44 ERA with a .800 WHIP as he served as an elite option for the Halos in the bullpen. LA has opted to bring up Ben Joyce, one of their top pitching prospects, in the meantime as they wait to see how serious this injury is.

It will be nice to see how Joyce fares in his first major league opportunity but we hope to have Moore back healthy soon!
