Angels News: Mike Trout Confident In Halos’ Chances, ‘We’re Not Out of It’
After a long month-and-a-half, Angels centerfielder Mike Trout has finally returned to the lineup from a broken hamate bone in his left wrist.
Unfortunately, he seems to be running back into a burning building.
Since his exit, the Angels have gone from a four-game deficit in the American League Wild Card race to 9.5 games at the time of this writing. Yikes.
However bleak the Halos' chances of making the postseason may be, Trout is staying hopeful.
"We're not out of it," Trout said before Tuesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. "You never know. I've seen some crazy stuff. We've got a group of guys that won't stop fighting."

Trout was already off to a disappointing season, by his lofty standards at least. His batting average of .263 would be the lowest in his career other than his 40-game rookie season if the season were to end today. His strikeout rate of 28.8% would also be an unwanted career high.
Trout is determined to play every chance available in an effort to bring the Angels back to life, and says he is feeling fresh after his seven-week absence.
"We're running out of time, so I'm expecting to try to be in there every day," Trout said.

He also spoke on breaking out of his May and June slump in the games leading up to his unfortunate injury. In his last 42 plate appearances before his Jul. 3 injury, Trout was batting .361 with an OPS of 1.147 and three home runs.
“Before the injury, I was just starting to feel a little like myself again, and unfortunately this happened, but just try to finish strong with the guys,” Trout said. “Just keep fighting to the end.”

The Angels have from now until Oct. 1 to keep fighting.
