The Angels desperately need some good news after being stuck in a seemingly never ending patch of the opposite of late.

After beginning the season with an encouraging start -- and looking like a team that could end the franchise's nine-year playoff drought -- it's been anything but positive since.

They've dropped 11 of their last 13 games to fall from potential contenders in the AL West to six games back in the race for a wild card spot.

Things got even worse after injuries to superstars Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout -- with the latter getting the worst of it.

But the Halos may have gotten a much needed stroke of good fortune, after Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register had an encouraging update on the center fielder.

"Mike Trout, who had surgery to remove the fractured hamate bone from his left hand, had just a bandage on his hand Saturday. He said it was feeling better than he expected. He has a doctor appointment next week. The soonest he could return would be the first week of August, but later in August is more realistic." (via Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register)

Trout's feeling good not long after his operation. And that doctor's appointment? It's now this week. And if Trout continues to make good progress as it seems like he is, he may just be on track to potentially return at the earlier end of the timeline.

It remains to be seen what the next -- and more official -- update will be after his appointment, but if Trout could return within the next couple weeks it'd be welcome news for an Angels team mired in the slump of all slumps.

It's a waiting game for now, but there should be some clarity regarding Trout's injury soon. And the Angels hope the dice roll in their favor.
