Angels News: MLB Analyst Gives Shohei Ohtani Top Spot in His MVP List
The Los Angeles Angels are playing some good baseball right now. After a slow start in which we saw them hover around .500, the Halos seem to find their groove after taking three out of four against the AL West division leaders, Texas Rangers.
The team is playing great, and their two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani is playing on another stratosphere. It may be early to start thinking about MVP, but not for MLB analyst Ben Verlander. Verlander dished out his top spots in the MVP race for the entire league, and by no one's surprise, Ohtani grabbed the number one spot.
"There's been no better offensive player in the game of baseball over the last week or two weeks. Nobody has been better offensively than Shohei Ohtani. In fact, entering today, Shohei has more total bases over his last 14 games than any other major league this season. He has 55 total bases in the last 14 games."
Ohtani is playing even better than he did last season and in his 2021 MVP season. Through 69 games, he is slashing .301/.382/.620 with a 1.002 OPS.
It's clear that Ohtani is the best player in the game by a mile, and it's not close. Verlander had Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr, D-backs Corbin Carroll, Dodgers Freddie Freeman, and Yankees star Aaron Judge.
The only thing the 28-year-old has to do is continue to play his game to earn his second AL MVP and lead the Angels to the playoffs.
