This would definitely go down as the greatest season ever.

In this story:

There have been 11 pitchers in MLB history that have won the MVP and Cy Young Awards in the same season. The most recent was Los Angeles Dodgers LHP Clayton Kershaw in 2014, and the most recent American League pitcher was Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers in 2011.

It's very rare for a pitcher to take home both awards in a season, however, if anyone were to do it this year, you'd have to think it would be none other than Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani.

Ohtani finished last year as one of the best pitchers in baseball, finishing on the All-MLB First Team as a starting pitcher. He also made the Second Team as a Designated Hitter.

Next season, however, could be even better. His statistical projections are even higher, and over on the MLB Network, Greg Amsinger had some very high expectations from him. In a monologue where Amsinger called Ohtani the MLB's GOAT (yes, seriously), he also made a huge prediction for his upcoming season.

"The greatest baseball player of all time is a guy that, this year, I predict will win the MVP and the Cy Young. Shohei Ohtani is the most talented, greatest baseball player we’ve ever seen, and it’s, to me, not even close."

As for his prediction for 2023, it's hard to argue with Amsinger's thoughts. If Ohtani can continue to pitch at the level he did in 2022, there's no reason he can't win the Cy Young. And, Ohtani is coming off a year in which he finished as the runner-up for the MVP award, and it took a historic season out of Aaron Judge to prevent him from winning his second in a row.

Ohtani is already the favorite to win the MVP in 2023, and knowing him, he'll find a way to be even better on the moud. Amsinger's prediction may not be so crazy after all.
