The Los Angeles Angels may very well be on their way to their first playoff berth since 2014 and it is mainly due to Shohei Ohtani putting forth one of the greatest individual seasons that we've ever seen. The baseball world has gotten used to Ohtani making history almost every other week at this point and it's clear that his MVP likelihood is pretty set.

Due to the Halos being in the playoff mix and remaining competitive halfway through the season, an Ohtani blockbuster trade seems very unlikely and other contending clubhouses are instead preparing to try to land him in free agency. However, he has been killing it all year long and MLB Now's Brian Kenny decided to break his season down.

"Ohtani leads all of baseball in home runs, OPS plus and total bases," said Kenny. "Leading the league in total bases means that you are showing up every day and producing, it's the mark of excellence and consistency. Halfway through the season, Ohtani has 205 total bases. He's on target for 400 total bases for the year."

We all know that Ohtani is a generational player and every year that he has been in the MLB, he has gotten even better. There are fans that argue that his talent is being wasted in Anaheim but maybe him taking this franchise to places they have not been before will bolster his legacy even more.

It's already very clear that he does things on the baseball field that nobody else does... maybe he'll take that same approach with his offseason decision.
