Angels News: MLB Insider Believes Shohei Ohtani Will "Still Break the Bank" the Offseason
When the most sought after free agent ever goes down in injury, what happens?
That is the question that is going to be answered in a couple months when a team takes a chance on Shoehi Ohtani to both pitch and hit once again.
Ohtani was diagnosed with a torn UCL on Wednesday, an injury that usually requires Tommy John surgery.
Before the injury, Ohtani was on pace to receive the largest deal in MLB history when he becomes a free agent after this season.
Although he may be unable to pitch next season, MLB insider Jon Heyman believes that Ohtani will still bring in a large contract.
Heyman believes that Ohtani will still command hundreds of millions of dollars when a team signs him.
"I still see him making history, I still see him breaking the bank with a record contract. He is one of a kind and will recieve a long term contract." (Via New York Post Sports)
Heyman predicts that Ohtani will still earn over $500 million over a long-term contract.
He compared Ohtani to Aaron Judge, who would've gotten over $400 million if he left the Yankees.
Since Ohtani will be an elite pitcher sometime during his next contract term, and he expects Ohtani to get the most money ever.
Whether or not Ohtani was going to pitch again, his presence at the plate would make him a top-paid player.
