There are not enough words to describe the greatness of Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani. His ability to be an effective hitter and pitcher has taken the game of baseball by storm and it has left his fellow players in disbelief.

Not since the days of Babe Ruth have we seen a player like this so each time that he steps onto the field as either a batter or pitcher, it's a special watch.

San Diego Padres star third baseman Manny Machado is just like the rest of us and is amazed at what Ohtani does on a nightly basis. He recently spoke about why he thinks Ohtani is on pace to have a career year this season.

"He's special to watch," Machado said. "What he's doing, you know, what he's capable of. He didn't win the MVP last year because (Aaron) Judge hit 62 home runs and I think he put that little chip on his shoulder and said I'm going to outdo you."

You could argue that Ohtani deserved the American League MVP award last season and nobody would disagree. But New York Yankees star outfielder Aaron Judge hitting 62 home runs was always going to get him the award.

Currently Ohtani is on pace to break that home run record. He is sitting with 31 home runs as we get closer to the All-Star break. Ohtani may miss a short amount of time as he deals with a blister issue on his hand but expect him to pick up where he left off as soon as he gets back if he misses any time.

He is the frontrunner for the MVP again this season and his brilliance is something to watch each and every night. We are lucky to witness this special player and it should never be taken for granted.
