Angels News: Moniak Saves LA in 7th Inning, Laughs Off Incredible Blown Highlight

What can't he do at this point?

The Los Angeles Angels granted the opportunity of a lifetime to Mickey Moniak just a few weeks ago and they have already been granted a full return. The 25-year-old was coming off a failed stint with the Philadelphia Phillies and was grinding out more time in the minors when LA called him up and immediately placed him in leadoff.

Moniak has been incredible thus far, boasting a slash line of .450/.476/.900 and coming up huge in the last couple of games. Most recently, LA took home a 3-2 Sunday win against the Minnesota Twins and it was largely due to a huge double he hit in the seventh inning

However, Moniak was not the only one who came up huge the Halos in their win.

Matt Thaiss has been heating up as of late and he's definitely overcame his early season struggles. He continued to show why in the eighth inning when the Twins were able to pull within one run.

But Thaiss knew LA needed some insurance and connected on his own double that allowed Gio Urshela to score.

And even though we've just been focusing on the positives here, our guy Moniak came within inches of recording one of the best highlights of the year.

Alex Kirilloff's home run in the eighth inning was caught by Moniak as he jumped halfway over the wall and he only dropped it due to the force that came with such a play.

"I'll be thinking about that one for a really long time," said Moniak. "It was in there, it was in the glove. That little jolt took my thumb out of my glove."

That would have been an amazing play to add to his collection but I have a good feeling we'll be seeing plenty more of these from Moniak this season.
