In a 2023 season in which we have witnessed the Los Angeles Angels fall numerous times whenever they were stuck in close battles, it was truly a breath of fresh air to see them pull this first match against Minnesota out.

Like other wins, it wasn't prettiest but it was enough to get the job done. LA has continued their previous schedule of giving Mike Trout days off to preserve his healthy this year and that meant that the rest of the team had to make up for his absence whenever they stepped up to the plate.

And boy, did they do just that.

Mickey Moniak Is Showing Off To The World

We all knew that something very special was on the way when Mickey Moniak lead off for the Halos in his first MLB game of 2023 and immediately connected on a home run.

However, he's only been better since as he's slashing .474/.500/.947 through his first six games with the clubhouse and played a massive role in their recent win against Minnesota. The former number one pick went three for four at the plate and was one home run shy of recording his first career cycle.

That is no easy feat but neither is coming so close... and let's also not forget that insane catch he made. Moniak performs in both aspects of the game.

“It feels incredible and I think that is the ultimate goal, to just be here and help the team win,” said Moniak. “I feel like I have been able to do that the last week being up here and just focusing on one step at a time.”

The Young Poise Within Zach Neto

Beyond just the spectacular play from Moniak, Zach Neto also put in a lot of work into ensuring that the Halos would start this series off right.

He himself put forth three runs with two hits and displayed his elite defense per usual. Every game, it looks like he's growing more and more comfortable at that shortstop position against major league competition and the Angels' front office has to feel good about giving him a shot so early into his career.

Bally Sports West made sure to show him love right along with Moniak.

We will see everybody once again at 7:07 pm PT!
