Angels News: One Pitch Got Brandon Drury Finding His Groove
The Angels signed utility player Brandon Drury to help bolster their roster. It looked like a great signing then, but he wasn't producing through 22 games when he was in the lineup.
He was batting well below .200 before this series against the Oakland A's, and he has seemed to find something this week. Sometimes all it takes is one hit, which was the case for Drury as he saw something on Monday.
The 30-year-old told OC Register's Jeff Fletcher that a changeup from Oakland's LHP Ken Waldichuk is just what the doctor ordered.
“It’s a swing that I had in the past where I was out front, and able to stay through it a little bit, which I hadn’t had the whole year,” Drury said. “So that kind of brought me back a little bit to the feeling of just kind of being myself. I got a little bit lost in there trying to do so many different things at once. Now I’m just trying to keep it simple. There’s still room for improvement. I’ve been having good at-bats, but there’s also been some bad ones too. So gotta keep going.”
And he's doing just that; since Monday, Brandon has eight hits, three home runs, and nine RBIs as he propelled the Halos to two straight wins.
He must've read that article about his struggles on our site.
A .571 average isn't unrealistic, but consistent play from Drury certainly is. This is precisely the player Los Angeles was hoping for, and they seemed to have got it.
If he's right, the Halos could be scary.
