Angels News: Phil Nevin Believes Team 'Owes it to Fans' to Try and Win Out in 2023
It has been a frustrating season all around for the Los Angeles Angels. They went from being in a good spot to break their long postseason drought earlier in the year, to have been playing pretty much meaningless baseball for the last two months.
The season got away from them very quickly, and it is one that they wish they could have back. But as the final few weeks of the season wind down, all the Halos can do is go out there and perform to the best of their abilities.
Manager Phil Nevin spoke about how he wants the final few weeks to go and reiterated that he believes the team owes it to their fans to try to win games to close the season.
Nevin sounds like a guy who knows he likely won't be back next season. So he wants to do whatever he can to help his case before the year ends.
The Angels roster could look very different at the start of next season as superstar Shiohei Ohtani will be a free agent, and he is widely expected to leave the organization. Star outfielder Mike Trout could also leave by asking for a trade this winter, although his remaining contract does make things a little tough.
But the Angels do have some fun, young guys in the system that could help any sort of transition next season. Shortstop Zach Neto and catcher Logan O’Hoppe have proven themselves this year, and they will be looked at as pieces of the future for the Halos.
So all is not lost for this organization, but they have put themselves into a tough situation here, and this offseason will be crucial in trying to set themselves up for the future. They have a lot of questions to answer, and we will start to get some of those answers shortly.
