Angels News: Phil Nevin Has No Idea Why So Many Halos Have Suffered Oblique Injuries
A lot of Angels have gone on the injured list this year, but surprisingly, five of them have gone down with the same injury: an oblique issue.
Halos manager Phil Nevin is at a loss for words about his team's injury history, and he's probably just as surprised as we are.
“I think we’re all trying to rack our brains on that,” Nevin said. “I’ve not seen anything like it, to be honest with you. We’ve had several this year. These guys all work. They work hard. They’re in the weight room. They’re doing their work. I like to sit here and say it’s bad luck, but we really have no idea. It’s something we’re constantly trying to think about.”

But how do they fix it?
“That’s probably something we’ll look into,” Nevin said. “We always are, anytime there’s injuries, whether it’s one or whether it’s four or five of one thing, you are always trying to figure out how do we make this better?” Nevin said. “How do we keep guys from getting hurt? There’s always new technology with things. We’ve got to dig deeper.”

And surprisingly enough, the Angels were tied for second in the league with five oblique injuries, with only the Marlins having more with seven throughout the season.
They've used the injured list an MLB-high 42 times with 35 different players. Only two Angels players — Reid Detmers and Carlos Estévez — have stayed on the active roster every day this season.
Hopefully, the Halos can get it figured out for next season, and figure out if it's something in the training regiment, or if the oblique is just a pesky little muscle.
But not having an entirely healthy team at any point this season might be a reason why the Angels didn't see much success on the field this year.
