Angels News: Phil Nevin Lays Out Changes He Wants to See From Struggling Reid Detmers
Stringing together some of the worst starts of his young career up to this point, Angels starter Reid Detmers is searching for answers to get his year on the right path once more.
One solution came from Halos' skipper Phil Nevin who noticed a possible issue with Detmers' recent performance and mentioned such to reporters earlier this week.
“He’s got to throw more of his pitches and more consistently for strikes. That’s basically it. Pitch to contact, not try to strike everybody out. I think he’s kind of got into that rut.”

Detmers is currently experiencing a rough set of outings on the mound in a time where the Halos have struggled with starting pitching all year.
The past six times that Detmers has started for Anaheim, the team has lost all six times and in the last two, the young arm has failed to register five innings.
Above all else, the lefty's ERA has skyrocketed by a run and a half over this timeframe and hasn't given the Angels' offense a chance to catch up in any game.
Anaheim's last showing to change that notion didn't go to plan, losing to the Rangers 0-12 earlier this week.
Max Scherzer dominated the individual pitching matchup against Angels starter Patrick Sandoval on a night where it seemed nothing could go right for the Halos.
Seven innings of shutout ball from Scherzer was met by Sandoval's failure to get out of the third inning in a blowup start that Detmers and company have struggled with in recent weeks.
The team wide issues with both the rotation and the lineup's ability to score only amplify with Shohei Ohtani's admission to fatigue this late in the year.
With only weeks left to make the postseason, it could be a long winter for Detmers and the rest of the Angels.
