Angels News: Phil Nevin Pleased to see Halos Playing 'Clean Baseball'
The Angels are playing as good baseball as anyone else in the MLB. As winner of eight of its last nine games, the Halos have found themselves only a game behind the Astros for second place in the AL West and 4.5 outside of first.
Even though the offense has scored more than five runs in six of the eight wins during this stretch, manager Phil Nevin made sure to praise his defense just as much as his offense after the teams 7-3 victory over Texas Tuesday night.
“For the most part, we’ve cleaned up our defense,” Nevin said. “We’ve played some clean games. Obviously, there’s a lot that goes into [a winning streak], and we know that they don’t last forever. But, for the most part, we’re playing clean baseball.” (via MLB.com)
During this stretch of games, the Angels have only committed three errors.
The Angels defense has also single handily won the team some games as well. In the win on Tuesday night against the Rangers, Mickey Moniak robbed Ezequiel Duran of a home run that would have extended Texas's lead to 3-1 in the fourth inning.
Thanks to Moniak, the teams offense outscored the Rangers 6-1 for the rest of the game and the Halos were able to get the win.
As the Angels look to continue its hot stretch, the defense will remain just as important as the other aspects of the game for the Halo's success.
