Any loss for the Angels this season should not be viewed lightly as their number one goal is to finally make the postseason. However, the one that they endured at the hands of the Red Sox stings a little bit more because of how close it was and how it could've easily went in LA's direction.

Errors were the talking point of this game. Anthony Rendon has shown promise at the plate and his presence was missed during his absence but two errors as an infielder is unacceptable. The same goes for the one made by Luis Rengifo as they both lost focus down the stretch.

LA once again failed to capitalize on their own lead early in the game. Four innings through, they were up 2-0 and slowly allowed the lead to go the Red Sox's way. Team manager Phil Nevin described the infield's defense as uncharacteristic and not on par with what he knows they can do.

“We just made uncharacteristic mistakes,” said Nevin. “And when you do that at this level, you’re gonna have the outcome we did. We’re better than that. We all know that. Mistakes happen. It’s one of those nights.”

Rendon's errors specifically stood out to anybody watching as he threw some balls to fellow infielders way too wide and that resulted in multiple runs being scored. He took full ownership of his mistakes and noted that he wasn't using the best grip.

Nevin also commented on Rendon's performance and insisted that he knows he'll do better.

"He just threw them wide,” said Nevin. “Not many guys I would want out there other than Anthony Rendon. He’s one of the best third basemen in this league. He made a couple of mistakes. It’s uncharacteristic. I’m not worried about it. He’ll be back out there tomorrow and every day that he’s able."

I definitely agree that Rendon should and will get more chances to improve. He has the tools to be one of LA's best players and he is looking to prove to everybody why he gets paid that big contract.
