Your Los Angeles Angels just ended their series against the Washington Nationals and took the last two games out of three.

And although the win was nice in their series finale, the bigger story was the return of the Halos 2017 second-round draft pick Griffin Canning. Canning made his 2023 debut on Wednesday and was quite solid in his return.

Angels manager Phil Nevin spoke to the media after the win and said he liked how Griffin looked on the mound.

"Very efficient with his pitches. He was close to coming out of the game in the fourth, but to come out in the fifth and that efficient, quick inning. I felt real good about taking him out there. Really happy for him; coming in you could see it on his face. It was a cool moment."

This was Canning's first appearance in a major league mound since July 2, 2021, against the Baltimore Orioles.  Griffin was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his back that caused him to be sidelined for the past 20 months.

Before the injury, Canning was a solid piece for the Halos, with a 12-13 record, a 4.70 ERA, and 214 strikeouts in 214 innings pitched and 44 games.

The 26-year-old will play a massive part in what the Angels want to accomplish this season, and we can't wait for what he has to offer throughout the season.
