Angels News: Poor Pitching Leads to Disappointing Loss to Texas

The 5-game winning streak is over.

As every inning passed in the Angels' Saturday night match against the Texas Rangers, it seemed like things were getting worse and worse on both ends.

Nathan Eovaldi dominated at the pitching mound for the Rangers and stayed there for eight straight innings. In that time, he allowed just five hits and zero runs. Batters for the Halos just could not get the best of him in any way, shape, or form.

But LA has been in games like this before where the opposing pitcher is in the midst of a hot stretch and they've been able to match that performance whenever they go on defense.

Unfortunately this just wan't the case last night. Reid Detmers made key mistakes multiple times when the fourth inning rolled around after staying poised in the beginning and when he left the game, it was 0-3 in the Rangers' favor.

Once Detmers was done for the night, Tepera and Wants were both able to pitch two innings and hold it down by allowing no runs. But the game blew out of proportion once Tucker Davidson checked in.

The ninth inning had just begun and LA was still unable to get any runs in. Davidson then gave up a slew of singles that led to seven runs and the Rangers increasing their lead to 10-0.

It was a very ugly game to watch and Brandon Drury homered at the end to at least put the Angels on board but the squad has a lot to think about heading into Sunday's match.

The inning is finally over. The Angels are down 10 runs.

Nevin is still very confident in his starting pitcher and believes that Demers is going to prove to everybody he's elite in the more games that he plays.

“The numbers, the ERA, aren’t really indicative of how well he’s pitched,” Nevin said of Detmers. “He’s still learning. He’s 23 years old and learning on the fly in this league. The stuff’s really good. … It’s more figuring out how to navigate a baseball game.”
