Angels News: Recently Released Halos Pitcher Signs With AL West Rival
The Los Angeles Angels are currently in a four-game series against their division rivals, Texas Rangers. The Halos are up 2-1 in that series and will look to take the fourth and final game on Thursday. The Rangers took the third game in convincing fashion, 6-3. We learned on Wednesday that they not only took the win from the Halos but also one of their former right-handed relievers.
Multiple reports reported that the Rangers signed former Halos reliever Ryan Tepera to a minor league deal on Wednesday.
Tepera spent two seasons with the Halos, including 10 games in 2023. In his Angels career, he went 7-6 with a 4.09 ERA, 57 strikeouts, and a 1.21 WHIP in 66 innings and 69 games.
The righty signed with the Halos after the lockout in 2022 for two years worth $14 million. Unfortunately, he couldn't finish the contract with the Angels as he struggled to find his footing. The team ended up designating him for assignment last month and released him a few days ago.
The 35-year-old spent most of his career in the AL, including five seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays and one season with the Chicago White Sox. Overall, he's a nine-year veteran with a 3.59 ERA and 19 career wins.
We wish Ryan the best in his next chapter with the Rangers.
