With the Angels facing a five-game deficit in the AL Wild Card race, every win is vital — especially in games against teams ahead of the Halos in the standings.

Unfortunately for LA, they fell another game behind after their 9-7 loss to the Seattle Mariners, who now sit just 2.5 games out of contention.

Reid Detmers recorded the loss, allowing seven runs across four innings, and has struggled to return to form. In his last five starts, Detmers holds an 8.61 ERA and has gone 1-4.

Overall, the 24-year-old has a 4.78 ERA and a 2-8 record following a strong rookie season last year in which he had a 3.77 ERA.

After his poor performance Friday night, Detmers opened up about his recent struggles.

"It's not good," Detmers said. "The line says it all. I just need to be better. I'm going through a little situation right now that's not fun to go through. The last couple starts have been tough, but I have to work my way through it."

The Angels made big additions at the trade deadline, showing their commitment to fighting for a playoff berth as the potential departure of Shohei Ohtani looms in the shadows of the offseason. Detmers hopes to get back on track to help the Angels justify their decisions in the front office with their performance on the diamond.

"It's tough," Detmers said. "We've added a bunch of new guys, which we were super excited about getting. We just haven't played to our potential so far. I haven't done my half. But that's baseball. But we'll get out of it and I'll get out of it and we'll move forward."

Detmers is scheduled to make his next start in Houston against the Astros next week.
