Angels News: Reid Detmers Loses No-Hitter After 7-Plus Innings Against Rangers
The Angels entered Wednesday night's series finale against the Rangers in a downward spiral. The team had lost four of their last five games to division rivals, and were at risk of being swept at the hands of the Rangers and falling to four games below .500.
While the game is still hanging in the balance, Halos starter Reid Detmers did everything he could to will his team to victory.
Detmers, who entered Wednesday's start in a tailspin of his own after allowing seven earned runs in each of his last two outings, brought his A-game against a dominant Rangers lineup.
Detmers went 7.1 innings without allowing a hit, before finally giving up a double to Marcus Semien with one out in the eighth inning.
Angels manager Phil Nevin has officially taken Detmers out of the game after 108 pitches, but it was an incredible performance by the 24-year-old when the Halos truly needed it.
Reynaldo Lopez will be coming in his place to protect the Angels' narrow 1-0 lead.
As for Detmers, this near no-hitter was not uncharted territory.
Last year, in his rookie season, Detmers threw a no-hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays in an incredible performance.
Unfortunately this one wasn't successful, but the way his career has gone so far, it's clear he's going to be flirting with no-hitters many more times over the course of the next decade or so.
