In a frightening scene out of New York, Angels rookie starting pitcher Chase Silseth was forced to exit his start against the Mets in the 4th inning after getting a hit in the back of the head with a thrown baseball.

As catcher Logan O'Hoppe popped up to throw out a would be base stealer, he threw to first base for some reason and the play turned into a pickle where Silseth found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Here's a look at the play, courtesy of Jomboy Media. Viewer discretion is advised.

As the play developed, it appeared as if Silseth had no idea where he was supposed to be. First baseman Trey Cabbage launched a throw to third base to try and pick off the lead runner and it caught the pitcher flush on the back of the head and careened off toward home plate.

He did walk off the field under his own power and was speaking with the training staff. Veteran Aaron Loup came on in relief in the 4th inning.

More to come on this story after the game.
