Angels News: RHP Jacob Webb DFA'd as Halos Look for Fresh Bullpen Arms
As expected, the Angels were forced to make a roster move on Saturday to get a fresh arm to Angel Stadium after burning through 6 pitchers on Friday night. It wasn't necessarily something the team was hoping but after a rough start from Reid Detmers, the hand was forced and RHP Jacob Webb is the unfortunate man that had to fall on the sword for the team.
With that said, the club announced that Webb was designated for assignment on Saturday and LHP Kenny Rosenberg would be joining the team in Anaheim for tonight's game.
Ultimately, it came down to a roster crunch for the Angels who stand to lose Webb through waivers over the next few days.
Webb has appeared in 29 games for the Halos this season, posting a 3.98 ERA out of the bullpen. In parts of four seasons at the big league level, he owns a 2.91 ERA over 107 games (mostly with Atlanta).
Kenny Rosenberg will be making his first appearance of the 2023 season when he gets into a game for the Angels. He made his MLB debut last season with the Halos, appearing in 3 games and allowing 5 runs over 10.2 innings (4.22 ERA). He's worked exclusively as a starter down at Triple-A Salt Lake this season, posting a 4.93 ERA in 19 games.
He may not give the Angels quality, but he certainly should be able to provide desperately needed length out of the bullpen when called upon.
Manager Phil Nevin turns to Tyler Anderson to start Saturday night's game.
