Angels News: Rookie Nolan Schanuel Reacts to First Career Home Run

The breakout rookie is doing everything right for the Halos.

Not many things have gone right for the Angels in the second half of the season but rookie call up Nolan Schanuel has been a bright spot since joining the roster last month.

The 21-year-old first baseman who was drafted just this year has gotten on base in every single game he's played so far as a big leaguer -- he extended his streak to 22 games with a double on Sunday. He also connected on his first career home run on Saturday night, a 389 foot shot to right field that came off the bat at 103.5 mph.

He told reporters after the game that he knew that one was gone right off the bat.

"Yeah. It just felt a little different than the others. And finally, finally... It felt good to get out and get it out of the way."

He was able to also get the baseball back, trading a bat with the fan who caught it.

Schanuel has been the primary leadoff man for the Angels since making his debut on August 18th, a role he's tried to conform to for the benefit of the team. He did tell reporters on Sunday that he could also try to mix in more power too, if the club needed it.

“I’m just trying to fill the role of being a leadoff guy and just trying to get on base for the big guys behind me,” Schanuel said. “If they want me to [go for more power] in the future, I’ll work toward that. But as of right now, it’s getting on base.”

Four months removed from playing college ball, Schanuel looks to be one of the building blocks for the Halos to work off of this coming offseason.
